A wonderful and unforgettable 3D2N lifetime holidays in Penang
This pandemic really affected most of us. A lot of activities have been restricted to avoid the spread of the deadly virus. But whenever the restriction has been lifted by the government now it is time to go for a holiday with our beloved family. Abah Jom pi cuti! Well with the pandemic still roar abroad, the domestic holiday is the best way to relax and enjoy our quality time with family.
The destination that I would like to propose is where else but Penang the one and only Pearl of the Orient. A family-oriented holiday destination, a makan heaven, and a place full of colors and historical sites. Visit, Play, Food, and Learn.
Lets the journey begin. Please make sure you arrived at Seberang Perai Utara by 10.30 am on the first day. It is advisable for you to drive your own car. Much cheaper if you are on holiday with your beloved family. Our first destination is Homestay Kampong Agong Bakar Kapor in Penaga, Seberang Perai Utara. At a very minimal fee, you can enjoy one of the most Instagrammed places in Penang. The picture described how beautiful is the place. If you have been to Bali, this the one that merely similar to the one in Bali.
After enjoyed with the photoshoot no it is time to head to Restoran Ikan Bakar Din in Kepala Batas for a delicious lunch. Its Ikan Bakar dan the famous Daging Harimau Menangis is to die for. Please be reminded sometimes you need to queue especially on weekends or public holidays. But frankly speaking, it is worth to wait. Eh, some people may ask, why not Nasi Kandar! Ayaaa we reserve Nasi Kandar on the second day la.
After finished our lunch now it is time for us to move to Georgetown or better known as Tanjung among locals. The best way to arrive in Penang by taking a Ferry ride. Our children will enjoy it so much. Please bear in mind this historic ferry service will be replaced with a speed boat service. So grab the opportunity before it’s last. You can get down from your car and enjoy the scenic view of the island and the strait between Butterworth and Georgetown. It is priceless.
Reached Tanjung! Where to stay? I’m proposing one nite in the city center and another nite by the beach. But I prefer to stay in the city center for 2 nites. Much cheaper. My proposed hotel will be the Royale Chulan Penang or Jen Hotel Penang. Why this hotel? Currently, both are having a very good promotional room rate. After so many months did not travel a very comfortable room is a must.
After check-in, refresh yourself and take a rest for a while and later get ready for another adventure! Be a tourist. Hehehe. It is best to explore Tanjung/Georgetown by walking or by a beca ride.
If you are staying at the Royale Chulan Hotel, let’s take a walk to KOMTAR. Along the way, we will pass the Penang Street Artist, another Instagrammer place. an open art gallery situated at Armenian Street. Don’t miss to snap a lot of pictures here and share in your social media. Before that, you will pass through the famous Masjid Kapitan Kling. Along the way, there are a lot of nice cafes to stop for a sip of a drink. But it much better to enjoy cold coconut water, longan, cendol, or the ais kacang by the roadside. We will pass through the Chowrasta Bazaar but just go ahead to KOMTAR. Penang Road exploration will be our activity on the second day.
Once we reach KOMTAR please purchase a ticket to go to KOMTAR Skywalk and its observation deck. Enjoy your breathtaking view from the tallest building in Penang. Dare yourself to walk on the glass. Hehehe. Targetting all activities to be finished by 5 pm. Then take a grab to Chew Jetty. If Perth is well known for its blue house on the water, Penang is famous for its orange house on the water. There is also a durian dessert cafe known as Durian Haven at Chew Jetty. It is a must!
After that head back to the hotel for a rest and dip into the pool before getting ready for our nite activities.
Around 7.30 pm it is time for us to make a move to Avatar’s Secret Garden in Tanjung Bungah. At a minimal fee, we will feel like we are at the Avatar Film location. It is really beautiful. Then we headed to Gurney Drive. Really food heaven for food lovers. There are a lot of stalls for us to enjoy a delicious dinner. Kenyang sudah! On our way back to the hotel please stop by at Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion and Fort Cornwallis, well known as Padang Kota Lama. Their view at nite is really beautiful and stunning. Reached hotel. Have a good rest for tonite. Long day awaiting us tomorrow.

It OK for them to enjoy swimming for one hour then it’s time for us to enjoy our day two adventure. One first destination will be a visit to Bukit Bendera. From Air Itam we will ride on a funicular train up to Penang Hill. It has been upgraded and equips with air-conditioning. If you do want to wait in queue, you can purchase a VIP aka a fast track ticket. Before we ride on the train there is a photographer waiting for us. Smile you are on camera. You can purchase the picture taken by them at a very reasonable price. The weather will change at bid when we reached the top, enjoy sweeping views across the island from the 2,732-foot (833-meter) peak. Not forgetting to try a the famous Bukit Bendera Ice Kacang at the food court there. Its Ais Kacang boasts extravagant fruity. So yummylicious. Thereafter heading to The Habitat Penang Hill. It is another family attraction situated on Penang Hill. If you feel tired you can rent a buggy ride. There are hotels on Penang Hill if you want to overnite. After spending quality time on Penang Hill no it is time for us to heading down. Our next destination will be the famous Kek Lok Si Temple also in Air Itam. It is the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia and the view of the temple is breathtaking. The complex is really beautiful and huge. The complex is divided into three zones while the temple grounds comprise the hill entrance, souvenir, food, and drinks stalls, and the turtle liberation pond. The midsection of the temple houses temples, gardens, the pagoda, and the four heavenly kings pavilion; meanwhile, the hilltop plays host to an enormous statue of the Goddess of Mercy, Kuan Yin as well as more gardens and temples.
Now it is time for our Nasi Kandar. I am proposing Nasi Kandar Pokok Ketapang @ Hutton Lane. It is really delicious. Finger licking good but not KFC. Hahaha. There are a lot more famous Nasi Kandar such as Line Clear Nasi Kandar, Nasi Kandar Pokok Ceri, Nasi Kandar Beratur, Nasi Kandar Deen Maju or you can opt for Restoran Hameediyah at Lebuh Campbell. Its Ayam Masak Ros and its Murtabak is a must.
After we finished our lunch now it’s time for us to explore Penang Road which is situated nearby. Chowrasta Market, here we come. Situated at Penang Road, within George Town’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Malaysia’s oldest markets. It is famous for its nutmeg products, and Chowrasta Market is the best place to pick them up. You can find nutmeg in many forms. However, across the road next to Chowrasta Market is also the famous Jeruk Pak Ali outlet. But before that don’t forget to taste the famous and original Ais Tingkap Chowrasta. So refreshing and so tasty.
A visit to Penang will not complete if we don’t go around the Island. We are heading to the beach area at Batu Feringgi. Our next stop in the famous Hard Rock Hotel. This resort has the largest swimming pool on the island. Don’t forget to shop for souvenirs at the Rock Shop. Then we continue our journey to Teluk Bahang. The new Angsana Teluk Bahang is worth a visit. A new hotel collection with chic interiors and stunning sea views. We can drop by the beach for our children to swim.
If you have time you can drop by the Teluk Bahang Dam or otherwise you can head directly to Balik Pulau. Balik Pulau is famous for its Durian. Feel free to drop by at any Durian farm along the way. You can taste fresh and delicious durian from the farm. But there is one more a must makan stop in Balik Pulau. Laksa Pokok Janggus in Kampung Perlis Balik Pulau. Their laksa is really delicious. Thereafter it is time for us to heading back to the hotel via Bayan Lepas. The journey along this road really breathtaking. Reached the hotel and it’s time to rest and dip into a pool. After a long day walking around, a pool session is a must to refresh yourself.
Tonite is our last nite in Penang. What is our dinner? Why don’t we try something different. I would like to propose Jawi House Cafe Gallery located at Lebuh Armenian. Try their Lemuni Rice and Lamb Biryani. It is a must. But if your family want western cuisine, why not we heading back to Hard Rock Cafe in Batu Feringgi. Its western meal is to die for. One more thing we can listen to the band while having our dinner. Since tonite is our last nite why don’t we driving around Georgetown on our back to the hotel to see Penang at nite? E&O Hotel should be one of our stopovers. Its architecture is really stunning. Then time for us to take a rest and have a good sleep.
Good Morning Day Three.
Sumptuous buffet breakfast at the hotel or else you can head to Taman Brown to taste a local breakfast cuisine. Try warm serabai with its delicious sauce. You can also try the famous roti canai at Jalan Argyll or at Transfer Road. Roti Canai Telur Goyang is a must together with mutton curry.

After check out go around Jalan P Ramlee to visit our extraordinary Tan Sri P Ramlee birthplace. Then we are heading directly to Teluk Tempoyak in Batu Maung. It is a traditional fishing village. Penang World War Museum also located nearby if you want to visit. Thereafter we are heading to Pan Mutiara Restaurant for our lunch. Its Kari Kepala Ikan is a must. Oh my, it’s so delicious We can also order other side dishes which are delicious too.
The next destination is Bandar Cassia in Seberang Perai Selatan. We will use the Second Penang Bridge. Enjoy the scenic ocean view along the way. Our last destination is Design Village. Shop till you drop. Hehehe. End of our wonderful holiday. Drive home safely
To have a good and quality holiday no need for us to go abroad. There are a lot of interesting places to explore in our own country. That is why a lot of foreigners love to stay longer in our country. In Penang itself, there are a lot of places to visit. The one that I’m proposing is in my opinion amount the top in the lists.
In terms of budgeting, I don’t have an exact figure. Based on my experience the costs will be below RM1,500 or it can go up to RM2,000 depending on the number of your family members. It is still cheap for a family holiday and worth to spending here in Malaysia to boost our economic. Bear in mind after long months did not go for a holiday, a good and quality family holiday is advisable. Trust me each of our family members will appreciate it very much and enjoy their holiday to the fullest.
My article may not have a pictures but trust me these are among the best tourist attractions, the best makan place and the activities to enjoy while holidaying in Penang. 3D2N may not that long but it is stress release to all of us.
To know Malaysia is to love Malaysia and its true.
