KLIA Crazy Sale & Cuti-Cuti Malaysia Mini Travel Fair
Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the Malaysian economy took a fall because people were not able to travel and retail during the Movement Control Order (MCO) so that we could help bring down infection rates to a manageable level. Thanks to the continued cooperation of everybody, Malaysia is able to gradually lift its strict restrictions and we are now able to travel locally and shop again. With almost zero passenger movement in the airports during March and April when the MCO was first implemented, there was almost no sales revenue for the airports and their retailers. Thus, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) is helping its industry and retail partners in overcoming the impact of COVID-19 by coming up with the KLIA Crazy Sale & Cuti-Cuti Malaysia Mini Travel Fair that’s happening this week over at KLIA from Wednesday 26 August to Monday 31 August.
What’s the KLIA Crazy Sale & Cuti-Cuti Malaysia Mini Travel Fair about? It’s a special event by MAHB that aims to support airport retailers and the local travel industry. They will be run together in the same area so KLIA visitors can have a look at the offers in both sections without having to travel to a different area. To ensure the safety of the public at the terminals, many safety measures are already set up at both the airport and hotel. All public areas at the airport are sanitised once every three hours, and guests are required to go through thermal scanning, adhere to physical distancing, check in via the MySejahtera contact tracing app, and wear face masks at all times. Passenger heavy areas such as the washrooms and escalators are sanitised with the latest technology using UV rays. Lastly, only 100 visitors at a time shall be allowed into the event area to ensure there is adequate room for physical distancing.
KLIA Crazy Sale
As the first ever airport-wide sales event at KLIA, the KLIA Crazy Sale offers phenomenal discounts on travel-exclusive, duty-absorbed products to the public by bringing products from the side of the airport restricted to passengers out to the public area that’s accessible to non-passengers. This means that, for a limited time, you don’t have to fly in order to enjoy the special privileges of purchasing products from the big-name airport duty-free shops like Eraman, Valiram, Heinemann and Lagardere.
Cuti-Cuti Malaysia Mini Travel Fair
The Cuti-Cuti Malaysia Mini Travel Fair is a smart partnership between MAHB and Tourism Malaysia to boost domestic travel, especially when the RMCO has allowed Malaysians to travel interstate and allowed hotels to open again, but with safety measures included. Many promos for hotels and attractions will be available here, including offers by The Top Penang theme park, Wet World Shah Alam, Avani Sepang Goldcoast Resort, and Malaysia Airlines.
MHholidays by Malaysia Airlines has campaigns for Sabah and Penang tourism, as well as a ‘Kids Fly + Stay Free’ campaign where a maximum of one kid (3 to 11 years of age) or one infant (2 years and below) may fly and stay for free per booking at selected hotels at various domestic destinations. The selling period for this campaign is until 2 September 2020, while the travel period is until 31 January 2021.
There’s also the Penang Global Tourism campaign with big discounts of up to 60% off for holiday packages and free vouchers to various attractions for anyone purchasing any of the eight featured MHholidays packages. The selling period for this campaign is only until 31 August, but the travel period is until 31 December 2020.
On top of that, MAHB is also introducing their first ever airport staycation to provide a new experience to locals, with the airport poised as a travel destination itself. The staycation package is held during the KLIA Crazy Sale and Cuti-Cuti Malaysia Mini Travel Fair to allow families to enjoy special access to the sales and travel fair, as well as an exclusive tour to the airport fire station on the airside. The Airport Staycation Package retails at RM360 for 2 days 1 night for two adults and two children, and is inclusive of breakfast as well as the experience of riding the latest Magirus airport fire engine around the KLIA area accompanied by the Airport Fire and Rescue Services (AFRS) team. Activities such as learning how to use fire extinguishers and ‘Great Escape’ fire simulation are also included. And while the parents are away at the KLIA Crazy Sale & Cuti-Cuti Malaysia Mini Travel Fair, children can learn to be little chefs at the Sama-Sama Hotel Bakery where they will be trained by the hotel chef. Guests also enjoy a 50% discount when dining at any of the restaurants in Sama-Sama Hotel.
