Where you can go to enjoy halal Yee Sang
It’s almost time for Chinese New Year again, and we all know what that means! Plates after plates of Yee Sang with your colleagues, and again with your many different group of friends, and again with your relatives on reunion dinner. Normally, I’d get bored of the same food, but seeing as I’m a big Yee Sang lover, I’m definitely not complaining.
The best part about your favourite dishes is sharing with companions, but I have many Muslim friends that I would just love to introduce this delicacy to, so I looked around and found restaurants that serve halal Yee Sang.
Here’s my selection:
1. Mohamad Chow
I just love going to Mohamad Chow with my friends, because I get to spread the delicacy of Chinese Food within my Muslim circle of friends. This was the first place I’ve brought them to enjoy Yee Sang, and while initially they were skeptical about the colourful presentation, they ended up loving it.
Address: 3, Jalan PJU 8/5h, Damansara Perdana, 47820, Petaling Jaya, Selangor
2. Tung Yuen @ Grand BlueWave Hotel
Tung Yuen is a good place for family reunions, with its Chinese restaurant setting, but you might want to book a place early for the New Year’s. They serve 4 different types of Yee Sang, with choice of salmon, sliced abalone, jelly fish, or purely vegetarian.
Address: Persiaran Perbandaran, Seksyen 14, 40000 Shah Alam, Selangor
3. Haslinda Sim Abdullah Restaurant
The owner of the restaurant is a Chinese-turned-Muslim lady, who have decided to open up her own halal Chinese food restaurant after struggling to find one. She includes seaweed in her special Yee Sang recipe, and it is included in her Chinese New Year special course meal.
Address: No. 48, Jalan Medan Pusat 2C, Section 9, Selangor, 43650 Bandar Baru Bangi.
4. Zuan Yuan @ One World Hotel
One of the main reasons I love going to Zuan Yuan is because of its restaurant setting. It gives me the feel of posh olden Chinese restaurants seen in Hong Kong movies set in the early 20th century. To match its setting, the Yee Sang served also follows the traditional style, with mixed vegetables and fish.
Address: One World Hotel, Bandar Utama, 47800, Petaling Jaya, Selangor
5. Dolly Dim Sum
If you’re a fan of insta-worthy settings, this place is definitely one to go to enjoy a picture-perfect Yee Sang moment. The restaurant setting is a modern take of a traditional Chinese tea house, and they serve a traditional-style Yee Sang for Chinese New Year.
